“Shadows of the Past” revisits an idea first imagined nearly 30 years ago.

Originally inspired by a 1996 painting, this new work features a mature whitetail buck standing against the rustic character of an abandoned prairie homestead. The concept returned to me after spotting an old weathered shack glowing in warm evening light along the edge of a snow-covered landscape near one of my favourite hunting areas.

Using carefully gathered wildlife studies and reference photography, I set out to recreate the original idea from that earlier acrylic painting with the experience I’ve gained over a decade working in oils.

Rooted in memory, time, and a lifelong admiration for the whitetail deer, “Shadows of the Past” reflects both the landscape and the journey behind this painting.

This version of our canvas giclee prints was introduced for those who want a print in the identical dimensions as the original painting.  Once framed this canvas will be the most impactful version and really provide that “Wow Factor” to any room.  It is printed with the same exacting standards as its smaller counterparts.  The edition size for this studio canvas is set at only 25 prints in total thus creating a very high collectable value. As with every McCaffrey print they are signed and numbered by Des and include a certificate of authenticity before they're rolled and packaged for shipping.
