THE ORIGINAL — ALBERTA LEGISLATURE

The original Alberta Monarchs painting now resides in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton—a fitting home for this tribute to Alberta’s wildlife and wild places.

As a proud Alberta artist, I’m thrilled to introduce Alberta Monarchs—featuring the legendary Canmore and Blind Canyon rams.
These extraordinary bighorn sheep, two of the largest ever recorded in the Alberta Rockies, are more than wildlife icons—they embody the rugged soul of this province. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Lougheed in Alberta’s Kananaskis Country, they stand as symbols of our pride, resilience and wild beauty.
Created as a tribute to the province that has inspired so much of my life and career, Alberta Monarchs has gone on to become something much larger than I originally imagined. The image has now been chosen to appear on an official Alberta specialty licence plate, with proceeds supporting wildlife conservation in the province.
I’m also incredibly proud that the original painting now hangs prominently in the Alberta Legislature in Edmonton—a fitting home for a piece created to celebrate Alberta’s wildlife, landscape and heritage.
For me, Alberta Monarchs has become much more than a painting. It is my tribute to this province, wild, strong, free and unapologetically Albertan.
